Chinese flashcards with spaced repetition
Save Chinese words and sentences as flashcards in Review 复习 (fùxí). Chinese Boost marks your answers and schedules each card with spaced repetition.
Try a writing drill The first HSK 1 drill practises 了、是、在、和、有、他 and needs no account to start.
How spaced repetition works
You review a card, then leave a gap before seeing it again. Review 复习 uses FSRS, a spaced repetition algorithm that changes each card’s next due date after you answer. Anki offers the same algorithm as an option.
Save 突然 (tūrán), meaning “suddenly”. Its reading card shows 突然 and asks you to type the pinyin. A correct answer puts the next review further away. If you miss it, the card comes back soon.
The writing card asks a different question. It shows “suddenly” and asks you to type 突然. Reading the word and writing it are separate memories, with separate cards to review.
Give each card one question
Reading a word, recalling its meaning, writing it and understanding it by ear are separate things to practise. Give each card one question. You might read 突然 correctly and still need practice writing its characters from English.
Answer before looking at the solution. Typing the pinyin or drawing a character makes you supply the answer. Chinese Boost marks what you enter as Correct 对, OK 还行 or Incorrect 不对.
Test sentences as well as words. Save example sentences 例句 (lìjù) for dictation, filling in a missing word, and putting words back in order. A sentence gives you context for the word.
What Review 复习 looks like
Read the word, type the pinyin
Save a word from the dictionary 词典, an article or one of the Lists 词单. Its reading card shows the characters and asks you to type the pinyin.
Draw the missing character
A handwriting card shows a word with one character missing. Draw it with a finger, mouse or stylus, then press Check. Your strokes stay as you draw them, without snapping into place.
Fill in the missing word
Save a whole example sentence to get sentence cards. A cloze card leaves out a word for you to fill back in.
Check the answer
Chinese Boost marks your answer as Correct 对, OK 还行 or Incorrect 不对. A marked word card also shows an example sentence.
